Year-old barn near Lake Michigan serves pie flights, sloppy Joes and nostalgia
A year-old barn near Lake Michigan is drawing visitors with “pie flights,” sloppy joes, and a nostalgia-driven hospitality concept tied to a multigenerational farm. In Fennville, Michigan, Robert Hagger returned to the Crane Farm area in 2012 to help establish Crane’s Winery and now leads Crane’s Pie Pantry Restaurant and Winery. The business has served family recipes since the 1970s, when Lou Crane expanded offerings at the farm, with pie recipes including apple, blueberry, cherry, rhubarb raspberry, and gluten-free options. The restaurant operates in a 150-year-old barn, described as a retail space built across generations, including an external bakery and winery areas. The pie pantry offers $5 slices, and visitors can choose from 15 pies, along with cider donuts and baked goods from local Michigan businesses. Wine and hard cider—about 12 rotating offerings—can be purchased, and fruit is sourced nearby from Crane Orchards and U-Pick.
