Your cloud survived everything except the real world

AWS says war damage to its Middle East infrastructure has permanently destroyed resources and data hosted exclusively in its Bahrain Availability Zones, overwhelming the resilience designed for the region. The consequence is straightforward: customers without copies elsewhere can no longer access that data. The report also points to other U.S. operations in the area, including the U.S. Navy, which has reportedly seen its local maintenance and supply network badly damaged. It draws a broader lesson for businesses and travelers alike: redundancy within a single cloud region isn’t the same as maintaining independent backups elsewhere, and physical destruction remains a distinct, hard-to-insure risk.
