Zack Polanski attacked the Labour government’s support for a third runway at Heathrow, calling the project a “great betrayal” as campaigning ramps up for the Holborn and St Pancras by-election on October 8. Speaking to The Standard, the Green Party leader said Heathrow expansion would betray UK climate commitments, worsen air quality for communities, and damage children’s futures. His comments came after the UK’s Climate Change Committee warned there is “no credible pathway” to Heathrow’s third runway within legally binding emission-cut targets under current policies. The CCC also said aviation expansion would require higher international flight costs by 2050 and that industry must cut emissions to net zero. Government minister Martin McCluskey dismissed the advice as “exactly that.”
