Administration to use secretive deportation court for the first time

The Trump administration is set to use the Alien Terrorist Removal Court for the first time, testing a little-known, never-used deportation forum created in 1996. On Thursday, Nazira Haji Zada, 47, will appear for a 11:30 EDT status hearing. The Department of Justice wants to remove her, alleging she supported Islamic State sympathies after her son was convicted last year for a plot targeting the 2024 election. While the hearing itself will be public, court filings say underlying information remains classified and even withheld from Zada. A federal judge, led by chief judge Joan Ericksen, will review the case and prosecutors must prove guilt by a preponderance of evidence.
