Airstrikes at sea are killing Mexican citizens

Airstrikes launched at sea in the Pacific and Caribbean have killed Mexican citizens, according to a New York Times investigation. In mid-February, two boats carrying eight fishermen left Mexico’s Pacific coast and never returned; traffickers hired the men to help smuggle cocaine and later said the U.S. military bombed them after releasing videos of two missile strikes that it said killed eight “narco-terrorists.” The article says U.S. airstrikes have already hit Mexican vessels in international waters, including fatal strikes on Feb. 16 that killed the eight men from Nayarit. It reports that at least five additional Mexicans died in other maritime strikes across Latin America. The U.S. has not disclosed exact locations of its 64 strikes, and Mexico’s navy spokesman said no attacks occurred within Mexico’s Exclusive Economic Zone.
