Amazon issues nationwide recall for 3M products after several fires, property damage
Amazon is issuing a nationwide recall for 3M Scotch thermal laminators after reports of overheating, smoking, and some fires or minor property damage. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says 3M is recalling 53,634 units of the Scotch thermal laminator model TL1302Z because the machines can overheat, creating a fire hazard that could cause serious injury or death. The recall was announced Oct. 15, 2026. 3M has received 63 reports including five fires and one report of minor property damage. The laminators are light gray and white with gray accents and the word “Scotch” on the front, with a 13-inch-wide slot and a carrying handle. Sold on Amazon from June 2024 to September 2026 for $44 to $56, consumers are told to unplug and stop using them and request refunds through an online registration process requiring proof of the model.
