Anglers warned about holiday fishing limit change - or face $350 fines

Anglers in Louisiana received a holiday warning after a temporary red snapper limit change for the Fourth of July weekend. Under the updated rules, residents may catch five red snapper per person on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, marking an increase from the normal limit of four per person. Louisiana’s Department of Wildlife and Fisheries said the change is intended to celebrate Independence Day and the state’s role in the country’s 250th birthday. After Monday, the red snapper limit returns to the usual four per person. Fishers must also follow a 16-inch minimum size requirement. The LDWF warned that possessing over the limit or undersized red snapper can bring fines up to $350 per offense. The season runs from May 1 until weight limits are reached, and a free Recreational Offshore Landing Permit is required.
