Auckland Airport Unveils Master Plan, Targets 38 Mln Passengers By 2040s

Auckland Airport released its finalized Master Plan outlining a flexible growth roadmap for travel, trade and tourism through the late 2040s. The airport expects annual passenger volume to double to 38 million by the late 2040s, up from about 19 million today. The plan emphasizes maximizing existing infrastructure before major new construction, with investments scheduled to expand as demand rises. Auckland Airport also said it intends to protect land north of the current runway for a potential second runway, though no construction timeline is set. Long-term priorities include integrating domestic and international jet terminals, consolidating cargo operations, improving regional aviation facilities, and supporting low-emission transport and climate resilience. Auckland Airport chief executive Carrie Hurihanganui said the goal is a more connected, efficient, resilient and easier-to-use airport precinct. Shares closed down 1.14% at A$6.93 on the ASX on Tuesday.
