A blue marlin landed off Massachusetts could challenge the Atlantic East Coast record after Damon Sacco and client Walter Chapman brought in a massive fish on Wednesday. The billfish, caught near Atlantis Canyon about 100 miles off Cape Cod from Sacco’s charter boat Castafari, measured more than 11 feet (335 cm) and weighed 1,260 pounds (571.5 kg). That figure was 142 pounds (64.4 kg) short of the International Game Fish Association world record set from Brazil in 1992. Scientists at the University of Maine Pelagic Fisheries Lab are assessing the marlin’s age, with an estimate of roughly 25 to 30 years.
