Boat containing more than 50 migrants arrives in Dover

A boat carrying 51 migrants who refused help from the French coastguard has arrived in Dover. The vessel reached the UK shortly after 12:30am on September 23, after more than 30 hours at sea. Migrants were later seen disembarking wearing orange life jackets and carrying personal belongings. UK’s Maritime and Coastguard Agency said the passengers would be transferred to the Border Security Command. A government spokesperson said the command “works around the clock” to detain, check and process small-boat arrivals. The French coastguard had earlier described precarious conditions during more than 33 hours at sea, with the group refusing assistance while determined to reach the UK. The dinghy reportedly departed near Vierville-sur-Mer on Monday morning and was shadowed.
