Boating club says new 50-berth marina will contribute long-term resilience of coastal communities
The South Nesting Boating Club has submitted plans for a new 50-berth marina at Catfirth aimed at supporting recreational boating, fishing and marine tourism, while improving long-term resilience for coastal communities. The club said the marina would enhance marine access and infrastructure for local residents, visitors and marine users, and back wider economic activity. Initial plans were lodged in 2022 and have been revised, with updated detailed submissions appearing on the council’s planning portal this week. If approved, the development would create a sheltered marina basin via excavation of the existing foreshore, protected by rock-armoured breakwaters, plus a concrete slipway, pontoon berths, a 40m quay, and power, water and lighting.
