Body found in West River near where missing teen was last seen: police

Police said a body was found in the West River near the area where 13-year-old King Best was last seen. Investigators reported that a person fishing discovered the body around 6:40 a.m. Sunday on the New Haven/West Haven line. Authorities said the body’s identity cannot be confirmed until the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner completes an autopsy. Best had been missing since he entered the river early Thursday, when New Haven Fire Chief Dan Coughlin previously said the teen was last seen going through the locks, mechanical water elevators used for boat navigation. About four and a half hours into the search, officials shifted from rescue to recovery. The effort continued Thursday, resumed Friday, and ended Saturday afternoon.
