Charlie Kirk's family signals intent to sue, alleging 'stunning failures' led to on-campus assassination

Charlie Kirk’s family is seeking legal action following last year’s on-campus shooting at Utah Valley University, alleging “stunning failures and reckless decisions” that, they say, left the conservative activist vulnerable. Kirk, co-founder of Turning Point USA, was fatally shot on Sept. 10, 2025, while speaking at an outdoor event in Orem, Utah, before about 3,000 people. Authorities said the gunman fired from the rooftop of a campus building. A notice of claim obtained by ABC News, dated Sept. 9 to the Utah Office of the Attorney General, points to inadequate risk assessment, insufficient security staffing and lack of real-time monitoring. The alleged shooter is Tyler Robinson.
