Chicago's Fall Bridge Lifts Start Wednesday. Here's The Schedule

Drivers and pedestrians crossing the Chicago River should expect brief delays to begin Wednesday as the city starts its annual fall bridge-lift season, according to the Chicago Department of Transportation. The first lift is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, with bridges raised one at a time along the South Branch from DuSable Lake Shore Drive to the 18th Street Bridge. Each lift typically takes 8 to 12 minutes, and traffic is stopped while the bridge is raised. The city will run additional lifts on Saturdays and specific October and November dates. Drivers should also anticipate “bridge lift activity” on Oct. 14, 15, 21, and 24 due to Lake Street Bridge work.
