Chinese fishing boat blasted by Taiwanese water cannon

Taiwan’s coastguard fired a water cannon at a Chinese fishing boat after it allegedly entered waters around the Pratas Islands, a contested cluster of coral atolls in the South China Sea. A video released by the coastguard showed the water cannon blasting the vessel, which then turned away. The incident reportedly began when two Chinese fishing boats came within eight nautical miles of the islands on Thursday; the patrol vessel ordered both to leave, but only one complied. The remaining ship, named Jin Sha, ignored three radio warnings, leading the coastguard to initiate the water cannon from 200 meters away, targeting the bridge area.
