Cornwall firm fined £100,000 over boat engineer death
xCruzo Brief
A Cornwall firm has been fined £100,000 after the death of an apprentice engineer who inhaled toxic fire extinguisher spray in the engine room of a fishing boat. Conor Moseley, 20, died aboard the Resurgam on 15 November 2019 while the vessel was moored in Newlyn, Cornwall. Truro Crown Court heard that about six people were working in the confined space at the time, which had only a single exit via a ladder as the fire-suppressing aerosol filled the room. The court found failings including no evacuation plan and insufficient leadership. Stevenson and Sons admitted two health and safety breaches.
