Crew tackles dock resurrection | Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
Members of the Old River Fishing Club convened Tuesday near Keo to rebuild a boat dock on an Arkansas River oxbow near Willow Beach, after a winter ice storm destroyed docks statewide. The project is described as an Old South-style fishing club featuring a clubhouse, a fish-cleaning station, and remnants of older docks supporting a fleet of aluminum flatbottom fishing boats. The volunteer crew consisted of Raymond Scroggins, Dennis Manees, David Williams, Patrick Polk, Danny Pledger, Mike Daniels, Harvey Young, Donna Crowder, and Mike Romine. The article ties the failure to the ice storm that also collapsed docks including those at the Little Rock Yacht Club and Mountain Harbor Marina on Lake Ouachita. For the reconstruction, the group built the foundation from plastic 55-gallon barrels, repurposed wood for stringers and planking, and used polypropylene rope as a harness to hold the barrels in place. Ongoing debate and improvisation occurred while the team worked through the day.
