Dead in Vietnam tourist boat accident
A speedboat accident off Phu Quoc Island in Vietnam killed 15 Indian tourists and left additional passengers injured, according to reports published July 11. The boat capsized about 440 yards off Hon May Rut Ngoai, in the An Thoi archipelago near Phu Quoc, on Saturday, shortly after departing the island area. Authorities said there were 32 Indians aboard the vessel, plus crew members, and that 13 men and two women died. A senior official suggested heavy winds and high waves may have caused the capsizing, while nearby tourist boats helped rescue people trapped inside. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted condolences on X and said the country’s embassy and consulate were providing assistance and coordinating with Vietnamese authorities. An Indian company, Lava Mobiles, said it had organized the trip for its mobile sales staff and stated that 14 channel partners and one company team member died. The priority, officials said, was rescue and emergency care for survivors.
