Design superyachts for billionaires. Their wishlists are changing, from hyperbaric chambers to WFY setups.
Design priorities for superyachts are shifting beyond appearance, according to naval architecture and interiors firm Vripack and its co-creative directors Bart Bouwhuis and Marnix Hoekstra. They say a yacht must meet “day, evening, and night” requirements for how a client uses the vessel, turning layout, space for crew, stabilization, and insulation into parts of the same “puzzle.” Vripack has designed superyachts for billionaires and members of the Saudi royal family. Recent requests highlight health and work onboard. Clients increasingly want facilities that go beyond standard hotel-style gyms, including Bikram-style hot yoga studios, kickboxing areas, and even a hyperbaric chamber for oxygen therapy. The trend also includes “WFY” setups—work from yacht—fueled by flexible schedules and connectivity such as Starlink-enabled video calls. The article also notes growing expectations for comfort at sea through smoother motion and noise control.
