Donald Trump showered praise on England captain Harry Kane after a dramatic World Cup win over Mexico, highlighting Kane’s impact in a chaotic 3-2 victory. Trump posted on Truth Social saying Kane is a “GREAT player,” after Kane converted a penalty and then conceded a converted opportunity for Mexico’s Raul Jimenez when England were reduced to 10 men. The match took place in Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, where England played at more than 7,000ft and faced a delayed kickoff of about an hour due to thunderstorms and lightning risk. Kane also had scored two earlier goals against the Democratic Republic of Congo. With six goals in the tournament, he sits one behind Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé and Erling Haaland, as England set up a quarter-final against Norway. Royal and political figures including Prince William, Sir Keir Starmer and London mayor Sadiq Khan also celebrated the result.
