Dozens of fishing boats destroyed in Ecuador port fire

Dozens of fishing boats were destroyed in a fire at the bustling port of Manta in Manabí province, Ecuador, injuring two people, according to Ecuador’s risk management agency. The cause remained unclear, with witnesses noting welding work on one of the boats prior to the blaze. An investigation is underway, and authorities said at least 35 boats were lost at the port moorings, consisting of small and medium-sized fiberglass craft. The national secretariat for risk management said the fire has been brought under control, and video footage showed flames and heavy smoke on the water.
