Drunk Man Was Dancing, Not Holding Steering Wheel on Stolen Boat Before Crash that Killed College Soccer Player: DA

A former boat club member, Lawrence Shieh, 40, has been indicted by the Suffolk County District Attorney after a May 13 boating crash in Boston that killed 24-year-old college soccer player Elizabeth “Lizzie” Dankert. Prosecutors allege Shieh was drunk, acted erratically, and was not holding the steering wheel seconds before the crash. Shieh faces involuntary manslaughter, operating a boat while intoxicated causing death and serious injury, and charges including using a boat without authority and violating a Logan Airport security zone. Investigators found his blood alcohol level at .20—more than double Massachusetts’ limit. Bail is $25,000; a court date is set for Oct. 8.
