Edmund Optics adds SMT-compatible LED optics to its portfolio
Edmund Optics has expanded its off-the-shelf optical components with LumenFlow Surface-Mount Optics, a new series of SMT-compatible LED optics designed for PCB integration and evaluation. The Barrington, N.J. company said the devices use standard pick-and-place assembly processes, featuring integrated solder pads and tape-and-reel packaging to support alignment between the optic and the LED source without extra mounting hardware or manual alignment. Edmund Optics says the optics employ a silicone compound for beam shaping, with optical efficiency greater than 90% and operation across ultraviolet-A through near-infrared wavelengths. Compared with thermoplastic optics, the silicone-based design is intended to maintain performance during high-temperature reflow, extended UV exposure, and thermal-demand environments. The surface-mount format is targeted at compact optical assemblies, including placements near heat-generating components. LumenFlow optics are available in single-unit and reel quantities via the company’s standard product portfolio.
