Experts warn Busan shark Bukang-i may have just two weeks to live
A dusty 3-meter shark stranded for more than a month in a canal at Busan’s North Port may have only two weeks to live, a marine expert warned. Named Bukang-i, it has been filmed repeatedly hitting the canal wall since at least Oct 19, and visitor footage the day before showed the tip of its right pectoral fin turning white, suggesting injury. Ichthyologist Choi Yoon, emeritus professor at Kunsan National University, said the shark appears to be deteriorating quickly, likely too weak to avoid the wall and possibly not eating for the entire month. The National Institute of Fisheries Science said it had not seen it feed. Authorities have tried twice to guide it out—using boats and water jets on Sept 29 and a large net on Oct 2—and plan to announce another rescue plan this week.
