Feds award record-breaking grant for Austin airport terminal expansion

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport has secured a record FAA grant of $90 million to advance its Concourse B project, part of the Journey With AUS expansion. The new concourse, more than 860,000 square feet, will sit mid-airfield and connect to the existing terminal via an underground tunnel, and will house 26 gates, primarily for Southwest Airlines. The grant is the largest single award in FAA's five-year Airport Terminals Program, which has funneled more than $105 million to AUS previously, and is helping fund design, construction, and related taxiway work. The program is slated to run through 2026, funding 133 projects at 129 airports nationwide.
