Ferndale Preserve project prompts Lake Apopka boat ramp shutdown

The ramp at Lake Apopka in Montverde will be temporarily closed from July 13 through July 17. Authorities said the shutdown is needed for transporting construction materials and equipment to the new Ferndale Preserve development. The project is expected to add a brand-new observation tower, a fishing pier, and a launch area for kayaks and canoes, creating an outdoor destination. Anglers using the lake are advised to switch to the McDonald Canal Boat Ramp for launching and retrieving boats while the West Shore ramp is closed. The notice is directed at Central Florida users planning trips during that window.
