Ferries rescue boats help pair as fishing boat sinks near Tsawwassen

B.C. Ferries said its crews launched rescue boats Sunday afternoon near Tsawwassen to help two people in distress in the water from a sinking fishing vessel. The company’s spokesperson said the Spirit of British Columbia and Coastal Renaissance dispatched lifeboats after the pair was reported aboard the vessel in trouble. In a service notice, B.C. Ferries said the 3 p.m. sailing to Swartz Bay was expected to arrive about 40 minutes late, and that the 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. sailings from Swartz Bay and the 7 p.m. sailing from Tsawwassen would also be delayed. The two were taken ashore and met by BC Emergency Health Services, and police were called.
