Fisherman speaks out after catching great white shark

A Nantucket fisherman captured his first great white shark this past weekend, illustrating rising encounters with the species along the East Coast. Elliot Sudal, a shark angler and boat captain, said he has fished these Nantucket waters for more than ten years and has tagged many sharks, including sandbar, sand tiger and dusky, but never one this large. He was tracking sharks on the beach when a bite took his line, and his teenage apprentice helped steady the rod before they realized what they’d hooked. Sudal noted that, of roughly 2,000 sharks he has encountered, this was the first great white.
