Midway Lake in Monroe County became a nocturnal bass hotspot under lights, following a Wolfe Street Foundation Gala auction that paired outdoors editor with Tom Kelly of Little Rock and Roc-Roe Hunting Club. The lake’s lily pad intrusion has limited water access, so Midway serves as a backup with a night-vision setup where insects swarm the lights and bass and crappie respond to swimbaits and 1/32-ounce tube jigs. Jon Griffin guided the outing from a 16-foot War Eagle, with tackle supplied by the writer. The scene underscored sobriety and community ties, including Kelly’s long-term recovery and Hill’s 20-year sobriety, aided by Roc-Roe and Wolfe Street Foundation.
