Fishing vessel grounded in Point Reyes: North Beach remains closed as teams respond

A 58-foot fishing vessel, the Lake Bay, ran aground Friday morning, Aug. 21, at Point Reyes National Seashore, prompting a temporary closure of North Beach while responders mobilized. The U.S. Coast Guard Southwest District said the unified command includes the Coast Guard, National Park Service, Marin County Fire, NOAA, and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife’s Office of Spill Prevention and Response. Crews are coordinating to safely remove about 1,000 gallons of diesel still aboard. The Coast Guard reported no injuries, active fuel leaks, or wildlife impacts, though the cause remains under investigation. North Beach stayed closed during operations.
