Five MPs Seek Temporary Fishing Harbour in Manama
Five MPs in Bahrain have submitted an urgent proposal to create a temporary fishing harbour along Manama’s coastline, aiming to protect the country’s fishing heritage while easing boat storage problems in residential areas. The plan would set up the facility at Al Fateh Corniche or on land between the National Assembly and Al Najma Club, providing berthing for fishermen, boat owners and recreational anglers. The MPs—Ahmed Abdulwahed Qarata, Mohamed Husain Janahi, Mohamed Jassem Al Alaiwi, Jaleela Alawi Al Sayed and Mahmood Merza Fardan—argue that limited berthing spaces force boats into public spaces and disrupt traffic and daily life for residents. They also call for the project to meet technical and environmental requirements and comply with maritime safety rules, seeking government approval in coordination with relevant authorities.
