Florida Cyclospora cases continue to rise. Brevard reports 3 infections

Florida cyclosporiasis cases have continued to rise, with the Florida Department of Health reporting 158 infections since May 1, including three new cases in Brevard. Across the state, infections have been reported in 36 counties, tied to Cyclospora, a microscopic parasite that can cause severe diarrhea. The CDC says it has received reports of 4,173 laboratory-confirmed cases of cyclosporiasis acquired in the United States and is also tracking more than 7,400 additional suspected cases under investigation. Officials warn the true totals could be higher due to reporting delays and cases treated at home. Investigators linked the outbreak to California produce supplier Taylor Farms. The company issued a voluntary recall on July 17 for Taylor Farms de Mexico iceberg lettuce products, distributed from June 29 to July 16 across 27 states, with some listings sold in Walmart under the Marketside brand.
