Russia has lost 1,409,630 troops in Ukraine since the beginning of its full-scale invasion on Feb. 24, 2022, according to the Ukrainian General Staff. On July 5, it said the total includes 1,290 Russian casualties suffered over the previous day. The report also claimed losses for Russian equipment: 12,081 tanks, 24,8798 armored combat vehicles, 116,106 vehicles and fuel tanks, 45,388 artillery systems, 1,916 multiple launch rocket systems, and 436 aircraft. It additionally cited 353 helicopters, 390,738 drones, 4,847 cruise missiles, 33 ships and boats, and two submarines. The Ukrainian General Staff did not disclose its own losses, citing operational secrecy. The article notes Western think-tank assessments, including CSIS estimates of roughly a 2.5:1 to 2:1 casualty ratio, and a January 2026 CSIS report projecting 500,000 to 600,000 Ukrainian casualties since Feb. 2022.
