Russia has lost about 1,451,750 troops in Ukraine since the start of its full-scale invasion on Feb. 24, 2022, Ukraine’s General Staff said Aug. 4. The tally includes 1,240 casualties suffered by Russian forces over the previous day. Ukraine’s report also claims Russia has lost 12,237 tanks, 25,079 armored combat vehicles, 47,331 artillery systems, 2,000 multiple launch rocket systems, 439 aircraft, 354 helicopters, 34 ships and boats, and two submarines, alongside large numbers of drones and fuel tanks. Ukraine’s own losses have not been disclosed, citing operational secrecy. Western think tanks broadly agree Russia’s losses are higher, with CSIS estimating a roughly 2.5:1 to 2:1 ratio.
