General Staff: Russia has lost 1,488,200 troops in Ukraine since Feb. 24, 2022

Ukraine’s General Staff reported on Aug. 31 that Russia has lost around 1,488,200 troops since the start of its full-scale invasion on Feb. 24, 2022. The tally includes 1,600 casualties suffered by Russian forces over the previous day. The report also lists extensive Russian equipment losses: 12,316 tanks; 25,255 armored combat vehicles; 141,920 vehicles and fuel tanks; 48,883 artillery systems; 2,079 multiple launch rocket systems; 1,597 air defense systems; 440 aircraft; 354 helicopters; 2,442 unmanned ground systems; 35 ships and boats; and two submarines. Ukraine did not disclose its own losses, citing operational secrecy. Western think-tank estimates cited by Ukraine suggest Russian losses outnumber Ukraine’s.
