General Staff: Russia has lost 1,496,440 troops in Ukraine since Feb. 24, 2022

Ukraine’s General Staff said on Sept. 6 that Russia has lost about 1,496,440 troops since the start of its full-scale invasion on Feb. 24, 2022. The total includes 1,390 casualties reported over the previous day. The update also cites a range of Russian equipment losses, including 12,331 tanks, 25,278 armored combat vehicles, 144,435 vehicles and fuel tanks, and 49,260 artillery systems. It further lists 35 ships and boats and two submarines, along with 441 aircraft and 355 helicopters. Ukraine has not disclosed its own losses, citing operational secrecy. Western think-tank estimates suggest Russia’s casualties are higher than Ukraine’s, with CSIS estimating roughly 2.5:1 or 2:1.
