General Staff: Russia has lost 1,580,440 troops in Ukraine since Feb. 24, 2022

Ukraine’s General Staff says Russia has lost 1,580,440 troops since the full-scale invasion began on Feb. 24, 2022, with 1,990 casualties in the past day, as reported Oct. 26. The same statement lists losses including 12,448 tanks, 25,609 armored combat vehicles, 167,240 vehicles and fuel tanks, 51,632 artillery systems, 2,239 multiple-launch rocket systems, and 449 aircraft. It also cites 35 ships and boats and two submarines. The Ukrainian General Staff did not disclose its own losses, citing operational secrecy. Western think tanks broadly agree Russia’s casualties outweigh Ukraine’s, with CSIS estimating roughly a 2.5:1 to 2:1 ratio.
