Germany deports Afghan without criminal record for first time since Taliban takeover

Germany has deported an Afghan national without a criminal record for the first time since the Taliban returned to power, Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt said on July 28. Dobrindt said the man became liable for deportation after exhausting his asylum claim. The person had also tried to relocate to another European country, but was found living there illegally. After being transferred back to Germany, he was deported to Afghanistan. The minister said the deportation followed a Tuesday flight in which 31 Afghan men were removed, with 30 of them having criminal convictions. Deportations after the Taliban takeover in 2021 remain disputed over human-rights concerns.
