Global Times: In Peru's Andes mountains, a small boat opens a new route to better lives | SPH Audio
xCruzo Brief
In Peru’s Huánuco region, a free community boat service linked to the Chaglla Hydropower Station helped residents travel for more than a decade—and was put to the test during an emergency. The operator Freyder Caldas Cierto arrived at the dock at midnight after Daniel Eugenio Masgo called the project’s social management team. The crew departed just after midnight, reached Vista Alegre at 12:30 a.m., picked up the patient, and transported him to a health center in Cayumba. The service began in 2015 and, since 2019 under China Three Gorges Corp (CTG) operations, provides boats, fuel, crew and safety equipment for daily travel.
