Government grant to transform watersports centre and cut emissions

The Scottish Government has awarded £1.18 million to Strathclyde Park Watersports Centre through the Clyde Mission Heat Decarbonisation Fund, aiming to transform the facility into a sustainable tourist and sports venue. Announced by Economy Secretary Stephen Flynn during a visit on Tuesday, the grant is the first from the government’s £25 million commitment to the fund. The plan replaces the centre’s end-of-life gas boilers, cutting annual carbon emissions by 90% using a 400kW closed-loop Water Source Heat Pump system with sealed pipes submerged in Strathclyde Loch. The project also adds 60kWp solar panels. Strathclyde Park is undergoing a £15.5 million redevelopment led by North Lanarkshire Council, due to finish in 2027.
