Guides in Minnesota's Northwest Angle provide unique way to harvest ducks
xCruzo Brief
Layout boat duck hunting is allowed on only five waters in Minnesota, and Lake of the Woods in the Northwest Angle is one of them. Andy Reaves, a lifelong waterfowl hunter from northern Minnesota, guides clients from pontoon boats to a set-up where only one hunter rides each layout boat. Reaves and business partner Forrest Huset run the operation with Reaves Fins and Feathers and Angling Addicts, during a short fall window. Minnesota’s northern-zone waterfowl season runs through Nov. 24, but Reaves won’t hunt layout boats past the first Sunday after Halloween. He also guides fishing from April onward and spends summers guiding in Ontario.
