Hampshire stars suffer T20 World Cup final defeat to Australia at Lord's
Hampshire stars suffered a Women’s T20 World Cup final defeat to Australia at Lord’s as England’s hopes of lifting the trophy ended with a seven-wicket loss. Australia extended its dominance by claiming a record-extending seventh title and denying the hosts a first global crown on the same ground where they previously triumphed in 2017. After being asked to bat first, England struggled to accelerate and were bowled out for 150-4, with captain Nat Sciver-Brunt making 58 off 53 balls. Lauren Bell had given England an early breakthrough by dismissing Georgia Voll in the second over. In the chase, Phoebe Litchfield and Beth Mooney built a decisive 100-run partnership from 67 deliveries, with Mooney top-scoring on 64 as Australia needed 34 fewer runs at one stage. A key incident saw Sophie Ecclestone’s dismissal of Ellyse Perry overturned by the TV umpire, and although England protested, Australia clinched victory soon after.
