Hot water for Guernsey pier's showers fuelled by cooking oil
xCruzo Brief
Guernsey Ports said it is using treated vegetable oil to heat marina facilities on Crown Pier, supplying hot water for showers used by visiting boat crews. The renewable biofuel is being used as an alternative to kerosene for the building’s heating system and shower hot-water needs. According to the port authority, the biofuel, sourced mostly from used cooking oils in the food industry, could cut carbon emissions by around 90% compared with fossil fuels. Port operations head Kieran Higgs called the change a clear step toward lowering emissions. Boiler installer Rubis converted three boilers.
