Iraola set to hand 'more prominent role' to one player next season; Liverpool fans will love it
Andoni Iraola is expected to give Liverpool a “more prominent role” for Rio Ngumoha next season, according to BBC Sport reporting. After a difficult 2025/26 campaign, the main positive for Reds supporters was Ngumoha’s emergence as a first-team option, moving from an August Premier League debut to starting Liverpool’s final three matches in May. The 17-year-old earned an England call-up for two friendlies ahead of the World Cup, debuting against New Zealand earlier this month. BBC reporter Adam Patel wrote Ngumoha is set to play a more prominent role over the next 12 months, despite his mostly substitute usage in 2025/26: 29 appearances and 952 minutes, with only 10 starts. Competition on the left has increased after Victor Munoz’ arrival, while Liverpool’s heavy 2026/27 fixture schedule could drive more minutes for depth players.
