Jannetti, Cox, Deardorff Crowned J/70 Champions as Santa Barbara Delivers a West Coast Statement
The 2026 J/70 U.S. National Championship wrapped up Sunday at Santa Barbara Yacht Club with David Jannetti’s Odd Racing winning the Open title, Ryan Cox’s DJ taking Corinthian honors, and Scott Deardorff’s CAKE claiming Mixed-Plus supremacy. The event underscored the strength of West Coast J/70 sailing as 37 teams—covering California, Washington, Oregon, Arizona, Massachusetts and New York—competed across the weekend. Nearly two-thirds entered the Corinthian division, while Mixed-Plus teams raced within the overall fleet rather than separately. Odd Racing entered the final day six teams separated by nine points, then secured the championship with consistent results, including second in Race 6 and a final-race abandonment after the start. Their net score of nine points beat Andrew Loe’s Dime (17) and Cox’s DJ (21), who also won Corinthian nationals. Mixed-Plus champions CAKE and runners-up Yolanda both finished top-10, and Deardorff’s team of family and SBYC officials won the division.
