The case involving the death of Irish entrepreneur Martha Nolan-O’Slatarra has advanced with wrongful-death litigation and competing postmortem conclusions. Her body was discovered around midnight on 5 August 2025 on a boat docked at the Montauk Yacht Club in the exclusive Montauk Yacht Club in the U.S. The 33-year-old, originally from Co Carlow, had moved to New York ten years earlier and was building a career in sunglasses and swimwear design. Earlier that evening, she had planned to meet investor Christopher Durnan. In court filings, Durnan’s lawyer previously claimed he told police Martha went limp between 10:30pm and 11pm and he thought she was having a heart attack. Her family filed for $50 million and says an independent postmortem commissioned by the Nolan family conflicts with the state of New York’s examination. The proceedings also name New York maritime lawyer James E Mercante.
