Kids, 3 adults rescued from Clearfield County river, 80-foot embankment
A water rescue in Clearfield County, Pennsylvania, turned into an 80-foot drop as first responders worked to save six rafters Saturday, July 4, the day of the holiday. Crews responded to the West Branch of the Susquehanna River in Bradford Township for a reported rescue. BJW Volunteer Fire Company said rescue boats searched the river while responders also searched on foot beginning at the I-80 bridge. Because the water was very shallow, crews switched from boats to UTVs to reach the rafters via railroad tracks and I-80, using a cellphone ping to locate them. The six people were trapped on an 80-foot embankment between the I-80 bridge and the Shawville Power Plant. Rescuers used a rope system and a Stokes basket to extract everyone safely, then EMS evaluated them.
