Mid-September heat doesn’t stop fishing in Arkansas mountain streams, where bass and trout can be targeted when water is available. The report says that, with sufficient flow, anglers can do long float trips on stretches of the Buffalo National River, Kings River, Strawberry River and other Ozark waterways. In the Ouachita Mountains, some sections of the Caddo and Ouachita rivers also have enough water to paddle a canoe. It stresses that day trips should be light, recommending a cooler with cold drinks, snacks, and minimal tackle. Lower, slower conditions drive fish into landlocked pools, where they have less food and strike lures aggressively, especially at dusk and in shallow riffle mouths and tails.
