Manchester United abandon Ederson transfer worth €45m with Atalanta
Manchester United have abandoned a reported €45m transfer for Atalanta midfielder Ederson, expanding on a deal that had already been agreed in June. The structure outlined €40.5m in guaranteed fees plus €4.5m in bonuses, but the move was not finalised while Ederson was in the Brazil squad for the 2026 World Cup. After his World Cup campaign ended, United asked for additional intensive medical tests, which were completed over the last 48 hours. Despite that, Sky Sport Italia, Fabrizio Romano and others report United informed Atalanta they were pulling out. Atalanta say they do not believe the decision is linked to the tests or any long-term injury, pointing out Ederson’s World Cup involvement. Ederson’s contract runs to June 2028, leaving his next step under new coach Maurizio Sarri unclear.
