Maryland delegation pushes for Port of Baltimore modernization

Maryland’s congressional delegation said it will keep pushing for investment in the Port of Baltimore after the March 2024 Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse shut the port for nearly three months. Meeting Thursday with port officials and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, lawmakers discussed modernization efforts and additional resources for infrastructure development, even though the U.S. House was out of session until mid-November. Rep. Sarah Elfreth pointed to new pressure on vehicle imports, adding that the port is also facing economic fallout from White House import tariffs. Recent upgrades include a completed $495 million Howard Street Tunnel project and federal funding for a new terminal expected to finish in 2030.
